How do you keep your kids gaga over getting physical?
“It’s been a difficult time for kids with different restrictions on activities and it is even more challenging as the weather gets colder and we are stuck inside during the cold winter months. Now is the time to recharge the playroom,” Denise Davies, co-founder of Project Playroom.
Parents can get easily overwhelmed trying to get and keep their kids active. And we all know how difficult it is to get them off their screens. Karri Bowen-Poole, co-founder of Project Playroom says, “It’s not about taking things away, it is about giving kids better alternatives.”
Here are some of Denise and Karri’s top tips for getting kids excited about getting active!
- 1. START THEM MOVING EARLY
We believe that the younger you get your children into regular routines with physical activity, the easier it is to keep them active. This is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Set up age appropriate activities for young kids so that they can grow into the space.

“Monkey Bars are a must have in the playroom, as kids innately love challenging themselves, and monkey bars provide flexibility as they can hang, climb, jump and create ninja circuits or obstacle courses. They also grow with the kids and can challenge teens and even adults as equipment can be hung from the bars or the bars can be used to improve posture,” says Karri.
Be a positive role model for your kids. Kids learn by watching you. Make the playroom a place where you can also enjoy the space. Karri converted her garage into a space where her kids could use it for a multitude of functions and she also uses it as her yoga studio.
“We started Project Playroom online retail store during the pandemic because parents kept asking us where to purchase the physical play equipment. So Karri and I got to work developing our monkey bars and other playroom products, and created an online shop where parents could purchase all the physical play equipment for their playroom,” explains Denise.
What could be more fun than a Project Playroom?!Parker Larson, style Director at Elle Decor, “I wanted to create a bright, happy space where my children could play no matter the weather so I turned to Project Playrooms! Their new retail site allows you to buy everything online, and it is already my daughter’s favorite place in the House.”

A Project Playroom is safe! We always suggest getting a licensed contractor to evaluate the strength of your ceiling, walls and your space before you install the monkey bars and climbing ropes.
